Microbus passive backplanes provide sturdy and reliable platforms for ISA single board computers and expansion cards. The high integrity design minimises traditional problems including ringing, cross-talk, induced interference, over-shoot, under-shoot and noise and interference from the power supply.

Wide tracks reduce reactance, minimising ringing. Cross-talk is substantially reduced by the interleaving of ground and signal tracks, and the use of a separate ground layer. Confining signal tracks to the inner layer reduces EMI. Power supply noise and interference induced on power cables are minimized by the use of inductor/capacitor filters on all power units. All mounting points are connected to ground, though isolated mountings may be used.

High integrity design & EMC

The high integrity design cuts down traditional problems including ringing, cross-talk, induced interference, over-shoot, under-shoot, and noise and interference from the power supply.
On PICMG™ backplanes, each connector has tantalum and ceramic capacitor decoupling, using 3-legged tantalum capacitors for safety.
Decoupling on power to the processor slot accomodates the high frequencies associated with fast processors and reduces EMI. Additional inductors on the power supply of PICMG backplanes also reduce EMI.
Mounting hole patterns match industry standards.

Power connection
Power supply noise and interference induced on power cables are cut down by the use of inductor/capacitor filters on all power inputs.
For power connection, the PICMG backplanes provide PC-compatible plug connectors.

Custom designs
Microbus offers a rapid and cost-effective custom design and manufacturing service for backplanes and processor cards. Standard designs are strictly block structured and adapt easily to customisation.
